Synopsis and Target audience

This three-day face-to-face technical workshop cordially invites those with prior knowledge of IP routing and familiarity with Cisco IOS configuration and router command line interface (CLI). It is designed for network managers and technical staff involved in building or operating networks with international and/or multi-provider connectivity. The workshop focuses on Internet routing, providing best practices and skills for configuring and operating large-scale networks.

Participants will learn about core routing concepts, protocols like OSPF/IS-IS and BGP, and delve into BGP operations, attributes, scaling, and multihoming techniques. Common BGP issues and the implementation of RPKI for routing security are also covered.

Other Requirements

Participants are advised to bring their own laptops with Wi-Fi internet access and administrative access to system. It is also recommended that computers should have Intel i5 or i7 processor, >=8GB of RAM and 30GB of free hard disk space, plus with SSH Client and Telnet Client (PuTTy) installed.

Participants must have an APNIC Academy login account which can be created for free at https://academy.apnic.net/

Participants should confirm Secure SHell (SSH) is allowed from the office or home network to access the lab infrastructure. To test SSH connectivity, try to connect to route-views.routeviews.org. For example, from the CLI type: ssh rviews@route-views.routeviews.org

Participants are recommended to complete the below APNIC Academy resources ahead of the workshop:

About Us

Introduction

Hong Kong Network Operators’ Group (HKNOG) is a non-profit, community-driven, vendor-neutral platform established to facilitate the exchange of technical information and best practices among Internet network operators and engineers in Hong Kong and around the world. By organizing regular conferences and workshops, HKNOG creates a collaborative environment where industry professionals can discuss critical infrastructure topics such as BGP routing, peering, network security, and the adoption of emerging technologies like IPv6 and automation. These gatherings serve as a vital hub for networking, allowing local and global experts to share real-world operational experiences and strengthen the overall security, stability, resilience and performance of the Internet.
